“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
In this part of the very familiar Christmas passage in Luke 2, we see an amazing contrast. We see that the sign unto us will be a baby, wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. That is a humble picture! We also see the Angel of the Lord along with a multitude of the heavenly host proclaiming His arrival. That part is anything but humble! This is no usual baby. This is the God of all the earth. This is the King of all Kings, and the Lord of all Lords.
As we remember His birth this Christmas, let us not forget the multitude of heavenly hosts! Let us not forget that although he was born and placed into a manger, He is the King of all. Let us especially not forget that He was born here on earth to live a perfect and sinless life. Because He had no sin of His own, He was the only one able to become a sacrifice to pay the price for the sin of others! That is the reason the cross is so important. When He went to the cross instead of us, He made salvation possible.
So, when you see the manger this Christmas, remember the angel, remember the heavenly hosts, but also remember the God of all the world who humbled Himself as a baby, lived a perfect life, and then humbled Himself to death on the cross on our behalf and in our place.
We wish you a very Merry Christmas from Patriot’s Hope.
Sincerely,
Team Southerland
