The Northwest Ordinance was the conditions in which the territories could become a state. Each new state coming in would be equal with states that had previously joined. The Northwest Ordinance is one of the most important of our Founding Documents. Many of the principles of the Constitution of the United States were recorded in the Northwest Ordinance.
