Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy by Eric Metaxas
This is one of the best books I (RaShell) have ever read. Pay attention. Learn from the past so we don’t repeat it. Every American needs to read Bonhoeffer by Eric Metaxas. Read RaShell’s full review of Bonhoeffer here.
Letter to the American Church by Eric Metaxas
Letter to the American Church is written to warn us about what happened in the churches in Nazi Germany. It is a fantastic book. There is also a Letter to the American Church Study Guide if you wish to do a book club or go through it in Sunday School. 6-week course Homework- First Amendment, Freedom OF Religion, The Bill of Rights
Read either the Constitution or the Constitution Made Easy (in the back of your digital or printed workbook). This week we will read Amendments 11- 27. In the Constitution Made Easy, that is pages 45-63. You can download the documents and print them. Patriot’s Hope Historical Document Library.
Alternate Assignment (in case you have done the above assignment lately): Get three pieces of paper. Label them with Legislative (Congress), Executive (President), and Judicial (Supreme Court)- one label per page. Now, read the same section of the Constitution as the above assignment. List EVERY thing each jurisdiction can or cannot do. Keep those pages as you will use them for future assignments as well. If you do this for all three sections we have read, you now have a comprehensive list of everything government can do! That’s it! They are not authorized to do anything else.
10-week course Homework- Article 1: Congress (Part 2)
1. In preparation for our continuation of learning about Congress next week, please go read Article 1 and Amendments 17, 20, & 27 of the Constitution again.
2. *Look up the National Debt Clock. What is the current National Debt?
3. *Find out how many proposed amendments to the Constitution have been brought forth.
4. Continue to work on the Grievances and Constitution assignment from last week.
Read the Declaration of Independence again. If you choose to do this second part of the assignment, it will be a multi-week assignment. Create two columns and label them Grievance and Constitution. Write out each of the 27 Grievances. Then find where it is addressed in the Constitution.
For example
Grievance- Quartering soldiers in civilian homes
Constitution- Bill of Rights, Amendment 3
If you need a copy of the Constitution, visit the Patriot’s Hope Historical Document Library.
*Thank you to Coach Benjamin Leiby for the homework idea
