Freedom’s Frame- Rick Green

Imagine if there was a framework for preserving freedom. Would you want to know what it was? You can! Rick Green lays out such a framework that is found right in the Declaration of Independence. Self-Evident Truths, Endowed by Our Creator, The Pursuit of Happiness, and Consent of the Governed. How do these four ideals preserve freedom? Grab Rick’s book and find out!

Sybil’s Night Ride – Karen B. Winnick

A wonderfully illustration story of young Sybil Ludington’s 40 mile ride through the night to gather the militia.

American Dictionary of the English Language- Webster’s 1828 Dictionary

Webster’s 1828 Dictionary was written relatively close to when our Founding Fathers were writing our countries founding documents. This dictionary is GOLD! Although there are online and app versions, we love our printed one. No one is coming into our home and rewriting the words on the pages. 😉

Genealogy of the Constitution by KrisAnne Hall

This one is gold! 🙂 So incredibly good. We encourage you to take the time to watch it.

Constitution Scavenger Hunt- free

This is a fun activity found on Teachers Pay Teachers.

U.S. Constitution Escape Room

I picked this printable activity up several years ago so my boys and I could do it for Constitution Day (September 17). It is a print and go type activity and we had a lot of fun. It’s about time to pull it out and play again.

Patriot’s Hope Historical Document Library

We have created a free historical document library where you can download, read, and study some of the documents that have shaped our country.

Homework

Homework assignments can be submitted here. Please put “homework” as the first word of the message.

Go look up the following words in the 1828 Webster’s Dictionary and answer the questions. There is a free, online version if you don’t have a hardcopy at home.

Look up:

  1. “Law”. Look at the definition of “Law of Nature”. According to that definition, what is the meaning of the phrase “Laws of Nature and Nature’s God” in the Declaration of Independence?
  2. “Duty”. Does this mean something you maybe should do? What does it mean?
  3. “Welfare”. Look at definition #2. How does this differ from the term “general welfare” that is used frequently today?
  4. “Enumeration”. How does this relate to the enumerated powers listed in Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution?
  5. “Oath”. EVERY elected official takes an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution. Read the definition and write a couple sentences about your thoughts on this in light of the definition.
  6. “Government”. Name several types of government mentioned in these definitions.
  7. “Inalienable”. Can these be taken from a person? Why or why not?

Bonus assignment

Look up 5 additional works from the Declaration, the Constitution, or one of the suggestions below. List which words you looked up and tell me what you learned. Suggestions: politics, republic, democracy, freedom, liberty. Jason suggests you look up the words “crime” and “misdemeanors” and think about how it relates to impeachment covered in Article 2 Section 4 of the Constitution of the United States.

The Constitution in the News assignment

The Texas Scorecard ran an article on September 9, 2025 entitled California Food Companies File Suit Against Texas’ Lab-Grown Meat Ban. Two California companies are suing the state of Texas claiming that a Texas law “violates the commerce and supremacy clauses of the U.S. Constitution”. Read the article and let us know if you think California is correctly applying the Constitution.
